The project attempted to confront the apartheid spatial legacy that sees a great divide between the informal settlements of the Cape Flats and the previoudly white areas of town. The facade picks up on the materiality of the townships as well as its apparent randomness. Spatially within the building one is required to 'cross over' a bridge from the formal ordered core of the building, across a void to the informal room spaces.
